Open House - Wilson Commons

  • Sustainable Living Center 3911 Village Center Drive Southeast Salem, OR, 97302 United States (map)

On Sunday, Oct. 30, the Sustainable Living Center at Pringle Creek Community will debut Wilson Commons, a new multigenerational, accessible community gardening area. Community members are invited to explore the gardening area from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with a short program at 1:15 p.m. The event will take place at the Glass Houses at Pringle Creek Community located at 3911 Village Center Dr., Salem. The project is made possible through a Community Challenge Grant from AARP.

The accessible gardening area is meant to promote outdoor educational/community activities focused on sustainability, gardening and multigenerational engagement. The project features a hands-on gardening space with concrete pathways, accessible garden beds, and a craft and gathering area. Phase 1 which includes the concrete pathways and the first garden beds is now open. Additional accessible garden beds, child size garden beds and benches will be added in the future.

“The Sustainable Living Center would like to thank AARP for their support in helping us get this new community education and meeting space developed. We are excited to expand events that promote intergenerational activities and a shared love of gardening and outdoor experiences,” said Lisa Trauernicht, SLC board president.

The Oct. 30 open house will not only feature the new accessible garden area but will also include an overview of upcoming urban farming classes, neighborhood tour of the living laboratory in the Pringle Creek Community, cold weather plant starts and refreshments. People from the greater Salem community are encouraged to attend to learn about resources available at the Sustainable Living Center at Pringle Creek Community.
