Walking Tour
Mitigate stormwater runoff, filter pollutants, and promote wildlife habitats.
Traditional stormwater drains collect water runoff without filtering it, meaning pollutants like oil, chemicals, and debris from streets and parking lots ultimately contaminate rivers and lakes.
At Pringle Creek Community, we protect water quality with nearly 75 rain gardens (or "bioswales") instead of conventional storm drains. These lush, planted areas naturally absorb and filter rainwater, removing pollutants before they return to the ground.
We prioritize native plants in our rain gardens, which are adapted to the local climate and soil, requiring less maintenance and resources than non-native plants. They provide habitat and food for birds, butterflies, bees, and other pollinators.
